Hardest Decisions Ever!! Phil's Specialist Consultation Turns Into Sedation And 5 Biopsies!!

Hey guys, results aren’t expected for the next 2-3 weeks and then they expect further testing to be carried out. He is quite sluggish at home and wanting lots of cuddles. Its pouring rain today and the vet said to keep him warm and take it easy because he has had a lot of blood taken, so the heating is on we are curled up under a blanket editing this video to get it up for you tonight.
We didn’t expect so many tests and minor surgery to be carried out on our consultation and were very surprised it went to this level so quickly. Insurance limits were already capped at a £90 for a specialist consultation and it doesn’t look like this treatment with the specialist will be covered as we requested to see them as apposed to our vet diagnosing and treating.
We have set up a go fund me for Phils medical bills we aren’t sure what the tests will end up costing but the first batch was £1200 just for the exploratory tests and we expect he will need a lot more before we get a treatment plan for him and medication. Here is the link to the Go Fund Me:
www.gofundme.com/f/phils-specialist-medical-treatment. Phil Means everything to us and whilst we will do everything we can to do the best by Phil, we will be limited to our current financial situation with only one of us working while the other cares for Mia. We have just bought a new van so we can go travelling with the dogs and we have saved up for nearly a year now for this but I think our travels will have to be limited to the UK for now in smaller doses while we consider the cost of treatment and if its indefinite long term costs or a one off remedy. Our van is our biggest asset currently and may therefore need to be a consideration to help with Phil as he is more important. Phil deserves the best from us as he has given us endless happiness and he is such a brilliant dog, he needs our help to fix this for him and we promised him we would.
Questions Ingrid the vet asked us during our 15 minute car phone consultation:
When did you get Phil was he a puppy? - Yes from 10 weeks old
Where did you get him from? - An Alaskan malamute breeder in Liverpool
Have you ever taken Phil abroad? - Yes to Switzerland and France.
Did you go to the south of France? - No just the alps and North France, he had the hair loss before we went to Europe
Was it just in 2018 that you went to Europe? - Yes but how did you know that? I can see when you applied for the passport
How is he eating and drinking? - Normal hes always hungry no changes to diet drinks fine.
How are his poos? Fine consistent 3 times a day.
Has he been coughing or sneezing at all? Yes he sneezes all the time but that’s his way of showing excitement
Does he get a discharge from his eyes or nose? - No
Any vomiting? - no
Does he live in the house? - yes
Where does he sleep? - in the house he usually sleeps on cold tile floor but if hes wet after bath or rain he’ll want to sleep on carpet where its warmer
How many people in the house? - 3 humans and another malamute and cat
Any skin lesions on those? - no
What has Phil eaten since he was a puppy? - He started life on dry pedigree but for the last 4 years he’s been on Applaws grain free wet and dry food, flavours chicken and ham or beef
What does he get for treats? - he gets Applaws tuna loins or just normal treats and peanut butter generally all natural
Does he get any dairy? - yes Greek yoghurt ice lollies with peanut butter. No other dairy
Where does he go for walks? - All over the place parks, fields lakes beaches
How often does he walk every day for? - An hour but he’s quite slow and calm on walks.
How do you groom him? - we wash him at home with oatmeal shampoo
Any other illness? Anal Gland issue May 2019
When do you think his hair loss started? Probably about 3 - 4 years ago
When did he start Thyroid medication? - November 2019
Any change to his weight? - Not drastically only 2kg
Does he swim a lot? - No but he loves wading in water up to belly depth
Any change to his hairloss over the seasons? No consistent throughout the year
Are your two malamutes related? No from two different breeders related by love only not blood
Are you in touch with the breeder any issues noted? Yes still in touch and nothing with his parents or the rest of his litter.
Has Phil ever had any biopsies done? Yeah when he had the anal gland issue
Then we cut back to the video and she came to collect him.
Thank you all for watching and the lovely messages we have been getting on our instagram and youtube page. It means the world to know that so many people care for Phil as we do. He truly is a special dog that generates happiness! We will keep you all regularly updated as we find out more. Hopefully this time we get somewhere with the test and treatment as it has been years... Thank you to our lovely follower that put us on this path by recommendation of their malamute with same symptoms.
Love from all the family xx

Don't get me wrong, we were their for her, just didn't expect it. We were wearing masks. Hope Phil is ok. Will be following. God bless. Stay safe.🌿🌹🌿

  • I hope he's well this the first time I came across your channel.. I thought I just to say this my got sick I had just come out of hospital myself ... Took alexis to the vet and found out a co operate company had taken over ... To treat her they wanted £2500 I had already paid £250 for consultation with covid and just been out of hospital myself I didn't have the money there and then so I agreed to make arrangements so they could start to operate .. I had been their customer for fifteen years but I was told we need the payment now and you can't take her home so pay up and also have to her to the hospital for the weekend .they made us wait for four hour outside and told if you don't we can put her down right now in the car park .. Can you imagine the heart ache my daughter and I were going through ... What a scene it was in the car park where the other animal parents were coming up to us to suggest other vets .. It was a Friday my other daughter was in Leicester and in lockdown . We were told to go to hospital because by now it was 6 pm so off we went got there 7pm again had to wait and again only to be told deposit £2500 and we will taken her in .... Omg In the mean time my daughter in Leicester got in touch with a lawyer and afew different organisations she called us and said mum go home and take alexis to this doctor tomorrow . So the next day took alexis to the new doctor and I paid them £30 for the operation and then had to take her to the over night hospital the same hospital that said £2500 deposit first .. I paid them £40 they took her in and looked after her for the weekend .. The best bit was when I went to pick her up .. They said they were getting the bill ready so I what I already paid £40 . Oh because the blue cross had said they registered us . They didn't want to wait a weekend for their money because some co operate had taken over ... Well alexis fully recover and still is well and running around .. So after I was feeling better contacted my bank and made a donation to blue cross thanking them ...twice the price the vet wanted and was ready to put my princess down in the car park . My daughter also reported the vet for putting us through what they did I can't imagine how many pets they put down to make money in the lockdown .... All my girls put some money aside every month for blue cross . I am so mad with the I spent 15 yrs with.

  • Sorry I didn't donate but I'm a believer that if you get a dog, you should be able to take care of it. And who names their Dog Phil? First of all it's one syllable which makes you sound weird when you call his name. Sounds like somebody calling their husband. "Here, Phil!! Come Phil!!! Come on Boy!!!! lame.

  • They should have requested you take pictures of the dog and send it to them prior to the visit so they can at least give you guys a basic consultation over email then make an appointment.

    Chantale TalbotChantale TalbotPřed 25 dny
  • With covid, the rules on not being able to accompany your dog going in, are very excruciating! I had to put my dog down and it took several different vets to find one that would allow me to go in and hold her while she took her last breathes. Can't imagine long married couples being separated by covid protocol practices while one is dying. Times are hard. Hang in there.

  • My regular vet comes out to get my fur babies. We are not permitted inside the clinic at all. They come out, get our “kids”, then the vet calls the cell phone and we have our consultation. The nurse or tech brings our kids out and we pay over the phone and go. When we order their food, I pull in, call to say I’m there and pop the trunk open, they put the food in the trunk and I leave.

  • My mom lives in Arizona and they do the same thing by taking the dog out of the car. The. Et tech comes out and mom didn’t get to meet with the vet. She was shown an IPad which was in direct sunlight and it was 108 degrees F out(boiling hot), and with such unusual interactions mom didn’t get all her questions asked. She had to call the next day to speak to the vet. Why can’t my mom walk her new dog to the door of the vet being masked? This is the same as taking a child to the vet. Yikes, expensive vet. The consultation price should be reduced once you agree to the treatment. Best wishes!

  • In the US, we are not allowed to go in with out pets to the vet either. You must call first to let them know you're coming. Once in the lot, you must call from your car. They will bring out a leash from their office and put it on your animal and then walk them into the clinic while you wait outside. This similar sequence of steps is also used for shopping for clothing. You purchase the clothing online and pay for it. They bag it. You pull into their car park where you will park in a space with a number. You call them and tell them what space you're parked in. They locate your order, tell you to open the trunk/boot and remain in your car WITH THE WINDOWS UP. Once they drop the bags in the boot/trunk, they will walk away and when they wave to you it is then okay to get out of your vehicle and close the boot/trunk and drive away. Strange times (and we've got horrible wildfires where I live PLUS these Coronavirus regulations!). Strange year.

  • I believe that the flea and tick repellants are responsible for a lot of the cancers and tumors showing up in our pets. They are very toxic to biological organisms, both insect and mammal alike. There are more natural solutions to this. Personally I use herbal powders, bathe my small dog every week instead of using a flea medication, and limit his exposure to grass (where many bugs lie and wait).

  • I understand it's frustrating with the virus and you're paying a lot of money but from a vet tech's perspective, we can't clean after every client in the waiting room and take care of your dear family members. If one of us gets sick, we work so closely with each other, we are all going to get sick then nobody will be there to take care of your pets. I know it's frustrating but it's a policy at some places and often above the technician's heads.
